In a time far away when we were children at play when us girls wore ribbons in our hair we would skip we would run playing out on the lawn and when it rained we would play some more go to the light go to the light let the demons fight they don’t know what they’re doing sometimes don’t despair don’t despair just let out your hair in the light the light of the sun those beautiful beautiful times homemade butterscotch puddings and nursery rhymes we would climb up a hill you could hear the birds sing we wore shirts made by our mothers we were strong we stood tall we never thought we would fall as we rode on the shoulders of our fathers those beautiful beautiful times homemade butterscotch puddings and nursery rhymes those beautiful beautiful times a seesaw a swing set and a rocking horse with china-blue eyes take me back please take me back to those beautiful times those beautiful beautiful times homemade butterscotch puddings and nursery rhymes those beautiful beautiful times a seesaw a swing set and a rocking horse with china blue eyes a seesaw a swing set and a rocking horse with china blue eyes take me back please take me back to those beautiful times take me back please take me back to those beautiful times

They say that she has given up on love but that’s not exactly the case she just prefers the company of trees kicking up the leaves in the forest kicking up the leaves watch them floating ‘round like birds floating ‘round like words unspoken one leaf for a teardrop two leaves for the seed three leaves for the bleeding four leaves for the memories five leaves for the mess he left six leaves for the tree seven leaves for a little baby who’s looking down from the heavens given up on love they say she’s given up on love but that’s not exactly the case she just prefers the company of birds flitting ‘round like leaves in the forest flitting ‘round like leaves watch them floating on the breeze floating ‘round like words unspoken one leaf for a teardrop two leaves for the seed three leaves for the bleeding four leaves for the memories, five leaves for the mess he left six leaves for the tree seven leaves for a little baby who’s looking down from the heavens sometimes we don’t get to choose who enters inside our bodies and our minds bearing fruit of someone else’s crime in nine months’ time one leaf for a teardrop two leaves for the seed three leaves for the bleeding four leaves for the memories five leaves for the mess he left six leaves for the tree seven leaves for a little baby one leaf for a teardrop two leaves for the seed three leaves for the bleeding four leaves for the memories five leaves for the mess he left six leaves for the tree seven leaves for a little baby kicking up the leaves yeheee for a little baby hey hey hey one leaf for a teardrop two leaves for the seed three leaves for the bleeding four leaves for the memory kicking up the leaves

Since they took you away I cannot breathe right something has seized up inside my chest all your precious treasures all your cool grace when I was a child I always thought you’d the sky swaying in the breeze we were graced by your leaves and in the autumn your leaves turned auburn and fell around our feet we’d play in your shade and sing songs of joy and on sunny days we would discard our toys and climb up and down your beautiful body but you were cut down as if you were nothing as if you had it coming but you’d done nothing wrong beneath your cool shade sweet love was made you watched me grow and I never stopped my dancing now you are gone I cannot breathe right something has seized up tight inside my chest you gave birds a home cradled their nests in the spring time I told you all my darkest secrets all my fanciful wishes they flew away on a black crow's wings now are you are gone how can I breathe right? the air in this place doesn’t feel quite the same as when we were graced by your leaves well some say you can always plant another tree but they don’t understand what you meant to me yeh I know everything’s gotta die some day still nothing’s been quite the same since they took you away I cannot breathe right the air in this place doesn’t feel quite the same as when we were graced by your leaves the air in this place doesn’t feel quite the same as when we were graced by your leaves since they took you away how can I breathe right? the air in this place doesn’t feel quite the same as when we were graced by your leaves

Birds 04:48
When I wake up in the morning I feel alright if the sky is blue coz I know that the sun is shining I sit on my front porch with the sun on my shoulders and I watch all the birds fly by and I feel so alive I have left all my worries behind this is the day the day that I’m saying every little thing is gonna be alright yeh oh I can hear their soft presence in the trees I know there are angels watching over me I can hear their soft presence in the trees the birds in the trees watch me fall to me knees I hear them singing in the twilight and then fly away I wanna fly away

Because there’s nowhere left to turn and no one left to find I go down to the karri grove to quench my burning mind rosellas flashing through the leaves plumed in licks of flame are sparks of hope that flicker out through karri trees in the rain the branches hung with ribboned bark darkened by the wet contours mark the growing trunk and I shall not forget a bronzewing on a limb of bone how mournful his refrain a lonely voice that cools my soul like karri trees in the rain I glimpse the golden whistler the glinting magpie’s eye the dew on hardenbergia the globes of earth and sky the darkened sap is runnelling my fingers trace the stain and I am streaked with living tears like karri trees in the rain oh I am streaked with living tears like karri trees in the rain I’m on my knees under karri trees their healing shade a cathedral graced by leaves I hear the sound of singing birds they soothe my pain in this sacred space karri trees in the rain

He was riding on his big black horse in hot pursuit of the woman of his dreams but the faster he rode the further away this mysterious creature seemed she was ambling just cruising along on her trusty pale grey pony he couldn’t understand how she could get away so fast he was the best rider in all the land oh Rhiannon why don’t you slow down for me? I just don’t understand how you do the things you do how long must I pursue you? I just want to take your hand he kept on riding striving ahead for little did he know that Rhiannon was not of this world she could transform herself into a flock of beautiful black birds yeh Rhiannon why won’t you slow down for me? I cannot keep up with your elusive pace please Rhiannon won’t you turn around for me I just want to catch a little glimpse of your sweet gentle face suddenly Rhiannon appeared and gazed into his soul she said “I’m glad you finally asked me you see my little pony doesn’t like being hunted. the night is closing in,” she said, “come sit down beside me beneath this willow tree.” and she offered him her hand and he brushed it with his lips and the rest is buried in legend oh Rhiannon don’t you slow down for me I just don’t understand how you do the things you do, how long must I pursue you? I just want to take your hand Rhiannon Rhiannon (why don’t you slow down girl) Rhiannon (I cannot keep up with you) Rhiannon, Rhiannon…. la da da da da da da da

Save it for the preacher don’t lean on me today for I’m all out of forgiveness I know nobody’s perfect least of all me but I just think you’re really mean so please don’t call me on the phone telling me you’re all alone you’ve never had trouble pulling chicks before go cry your crocodile tears down in someone else’s swimming pool go chase another china doll down to be your lawfully wedded fool I’m so darned relieved to have you out of my hair I was once a tangled mess but now this freedom is going to my head save it for the preacher don’t lean on me today for I am looking out at the horizon I am giddy with possibilities all those unfulfilled dreams I am busy tonight washing my hair and chasing moon beams go cry your crocodile tears down in someone else’s swimming pool go chase another china doll down to be your lawfully wedded fool I’m so darned relieved to have you out of my hair I was once a tangled mess but now this freedom is going to my head yeh yeh yeh oooh I’m so darned relieved to have you out of my hair and I just cannot quite believe I nearly walked over the edge oh I fell down on my knees but then I got back up again I was once a tangled mess but now this freedom is going to my head I was once a tangled mess but now this freedom is going to my head what was once a tangled mess is now tresses of golden freedom growing out of my head ooooh

The day my heart woke up I was looking up into a big old tree the leaves tumbled down they never made a sound gentle as the moonlight reflected on a big dark sea the day my heart woke up I was looking up into the night sky when a meteorite crashed into a satellite gentle as a feather floating on a silver stream my heart woke up just when I thought the blood was running ice cold through my veins my heart woke up miraculous discovery recovering from all my pain the day my heart woke up I was thinking about the things you’ve done for me a golden chalice for my tears as you listened to my fears you said that was perfectly understandable just when I thought that I was going crazy my heart woke up just when I thought that I could never feel a thing again my heart woke up never underestimate the power of a dear old friend never underestimate the power of a dear old friend

There’s a girl her name is Evelina she has this power she can be things in her dreams she dream she dreamt she was diving down deep with all the whales she dreamt she was a pearl inside a shell she dreamt that she was dancing on a storm cloud yeh she dream she dreamt she was weaving a web of fine gold thread spied her reflection in a drop of moonlit dew she danced about with fireflies perched upon the highest bough she dreamed she was a wise old owl singing out into the night take to flight never have to come back down Evelina’s dream Evelina’a dream the rain was falling outside the moon was smiling through the trees she slept beside her firelight and she dream she dream Evelina’s dream

A winding trail where coffin bearers walked leading to an old church made of stone we walk through leafy tunnels we seek the hollow-way we go where dusky shadows enshroud the light of day the coffin trail will beckon no map will ever show the deep lanes where we stray we climb up to a burial mound amid the sward inside it lie the bones of an ancient dreaming lord his earthly wealth beside him he’s curled up beside his sword beneath these rolling plains we walk the ancient paths of ancient toil of ancient wars we walk the ancient soil on ancient chalk we walk we walk to where an ocean once was twenty fathoms deep and filled the land with fossils where weathered sarsens sleep every stone a wonder there’s no way we can know the secrets that they keep we walk the ancient paths of ancient toil of ancient wars we walk the ancient soil on ancient chalk we walk we walk along the lynchets ruts left by the plough we lie down in the dapples beneath the spreading bough we see the Vale before us these things have never changed from stone age until now up at Wayland’s Smithy all of us will meet the living and departed will dance amid the sleet sloe-gin elderberry we’ll toast the morning snow above these rolling plains we walk the ancient paths of ancient toil of ancient wars we walk the ancient soil on ancient chalk we walk we walk the ancient paths of ancient toil of ancient wars we walk on ancient soil on ancient chalk we walk once there was a woman who would weave a wicker basket fill it with herbs and berries they beat her and they whipped her burned her house down to the ground but now her ghost is dancing everywhere we walk hey hey heeee! and we are always walking our way will never end there’ll always be a barrow around another bend until we fly away upon the back of a White Horse above those rolling plains hey hey heeeee! we walk the ancient paths of ancient toil of ancient wars we walk the ancient soil on ancient chalk we walk we walk the ancient paths of ancient toil of ancient wars we walk the ancient soil on ancient chalk we walk we walk on ancient paths of ancient toil of ancient wars we walk on ancient soil on ancient chalk above these rolling plains

Lay my body softly down in a casket made of wicker a wicker casket of flax and reeds woven by a weaver there’s no need for a service in a church just a few words where you can hear the birds please bury me beneath the canopy cover me with autumn leaves where the worms can turn my body into food for a big old tree if I get to be a little old lady stooped over and creaking at the knees some may say I’m just crazy to have such wishes as these that’s why I’m singing to you now or to whoever’s still around please place my body softly down in wicker lay my body softly down in the light of a waning moon a moon that lets her hair hang down and could you play some of my simple little tunes please bury me beneath the canopy cover me in golden leaves that’ll be my eternal resting place could somebody do that for me with revelry and chivalry I want to be part of something that gives so much grace shade air life a place for a nest to rest hollows for honey bees birds and berries do you remember those beautiful times? we tied a swing to a sturdy bough and swang out over a river singing old nursery rhymes I don’t want to be buried in a coffin of varnish nails and lacquer please place my body softly in a casket made of wicker woven by a weaver of gentle flax and reeds reeds and if I get to do a little haunting some may think it’s just an autumn breeze but some may see the spirit of a woman swirling and twirling and kicking up all the leaves
